Welcome

Dear Parents,

I am excited to begin the 2014-15 school year with you and your child.  This is my 3rd year with the district and my 2nd year with Colin Powell Elementary as a CRC teacher.  My 1st year was working as a paraprofessional in a PPCD unit.  My husband and I have three girls, two sophomores in high school and a 8th grader.  While I stay busy outside of school, I am committed to your child and enjoy watching the growth and progress that CRC can offer you and your child.

Students will be fed two free meals, your child can eat from the cafeteria or you can send a prepared meal.  We will have a 30 minutes meal time unless all students have finished and then we will proceed to the classroom.  We will follow the High scope curriculum and schedule which includes Outdoor time and a snack.

Attendance is important for the growth of your child.  It is our goal to keep our room clean and everyone as healthy as possible.  Please do not send your child to school if they have had any fever, thrown up, or had diarrhea.  It takes 24 hours after the symptom has stopped to be safe to return to school.  If you notice that your child is not feeling well but does not have a fever, it is ok to keep them home.  You will know your child better than us so we appreciate your concerns for their health.  I also try to keep you posted when we do have illnesses going around.  If your child will be absent please remember to call the office to let them know, otherwise the absence will be unexcused.  You can send doctor’s notes with your child and we will be happy to give them to the front office.  If your child has been out for 3 consecutive days, a doctor’s note will be required.

Children learn through routine and play.  Please understand that your child will get dirty.  During the early developmental stages, children are learning through exploration and will need to feel, taste, smell and experience as they are introduced to new things.  We will be painting, using water play, shaving cream, and other messy things to give your child an exciting way to learn.  If you would like to provide an apron or painting smock to cover your child’s clothes we will be happy to use it.  We will visit the playground and your child will participate in PE every day if the weather permits.  For safety reasons, we ask that your child wear close-toed shoes.

Communication is very important.  I will try to send home a report daily so that you will know what your child did; however, things can get very busy so I might miss sometimes.  I will be available from 9:45-10:30 for conferences, please call to schedule one.  While children are in class, the office will take a message and I will return your call.  If you have questions or concerns please let me know.

If your child is not potty trained you will need to send diapers and wipes for your child.  Even if your child does not wear diapers, we ask that you provide a package of wipes per month.  We use them to clean hands and faces all the time.

We will need the following supplies:

  • A complete change of clothes to be kept at school
  • A daily snack
  • A cup for drinking
  • Regular size backpack
  • Wipes
  • Clorox wipes
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Kleenex

  • 1 Sandwich bags
  • 1 Large bottle hair gel

The following are items that you can donate to our room but are not required (any brand)
